Hello, and welcome to the very first blog post on Jennings Photography! I’m Dan Jennings, the photographer behind the lens, and I’m excited to share a bit about myself, my journey, and what you can expect from this blog.
From Portsmouth to Cornwall: A Creative Journey
Originally from Portsmouth, I grew up in a bustling household as the eldest of seven children. With such a large family, life was always lively and full of creativity. Growing up in the 90s, I developed a deep love for gaming, which still sticks with me today. My love for Mario was so strong that I practically lived in my Mario top (check out the photo attached for a good laugh—it’s pure 90s nostalgia!).
Music was another big part of my upbringing—I played guitar, occasionally dabbled in drums, and even tried my hand at songwriting (though I’ll admit, singing wasn’t my strong suit!). Creativity has always been a driving force in my life, and it’s what eventually led me to photography.
In 2018, I moved to Cornwall and settled down with my amazing wife, Louise. Together, we have two incredible children, Noah and Evie, who bring endless joy and adventure into our lives. As a dad, I cherish the moments we spend exploring the beautiful Cornish landscapes, watching my kids grow, and capturing our family memories along the way. Time flies, and having those moments documented is something I truly value.
The Evolution of My Photography
My photography journey began with a passion for capturing the breathtaking landscapes of Cornwall and Devon. Living in such a stunning part of the world, I felt compelled to share its beauty with others. I started out with a Canon DSLR, then transitioned to an ASP-C Mirrorless Nikon, and most recently, I’ve upgraded to a professional full-frame mirrorless Nikon Z camera. With each upgrade, I’ve refined my skills and deepened my love for photography.
Why Wedding Photography?
There’s something uniquely special about wedding photography. It’s real, it’s intimate, and it’s filled with raw emotion—laughter, tears, love, and celebration. Being able to capture these moments is an incredible privilege, and I love being in the midst of it all, documenting the day as it unfolds.
My approach to wedding photography is all about authenticity. I believe the best photos are those taken when you’re not aware of the camera. For me, it’s about storytelling—capturing those spontaneous, unplanned moments when people are at their most natural. I like to blend in with the guests, becoming a part of the day so that I can document the true essence of the celebration.
Beyond the Lens: My Interests and Passions
When I’m not behind the camera, you’ll find me out on walks with my little family or immersed in music or geeking out over electronics. I’ve always had a love for music, especially songs that carry real emotion or a deep connection. Being a musician myself, I appreciate the art of storytelling through sound just as much as through visuals.
I’m also a bit of a nerd—I enjoy building computers, repairing gadgets, and playing games with friends. It’s a way for me to unwind and stay connected with the things I love.
