Our Wedding Day at The Falcon Hotel, Bude

A Traditional Wedding in Bude, Cornwall

Our wedding at The Falcon Hotel in Bude, Cornwall, was a beautiful blend of tradition and personal touches.

We wanted our day to be a relaxed gathering of family and friends, reflecting the warmth and love we share. The hotel, with its rich history and charm, provided the perfect backdrop for our celebration.

A Cornish Touch to the Ceremony

One of the most memorable aspects of our ceremony was incorporating a part of it in Cornish. This nod to the local heritage made the event even more meaningful, connecting us to the culture of the place we now call home.

After the vows, we were serenaded by the Bencoolen Wreckers, a local sea shanty group. Their performance added an authentic touch, making our day uniquely ours.

Emotions Running High

As with any wedding, the day was a rollercoaster of emotions. I felt overwhelmed by the mixture of joy, stress, and anticipation. Seeing distant family members who had travelled far to be with us brought immense happiness, but there was also the inevitable anxiety that everything would go smoothly.

The day passed in a blur of emotions, making it hard to fully take in every moment as it happened.

Capturing the Day in Photographs

While we didn’t personally take many photos, our family and friends stepped in to capture some moments.

We also hired a student photographer to document the day, and while the photos turned out lovely, one shot, in particular, stands out: the confetti shot. This image perfectly encapsulates the joy and celebration that filled the air, making it one of our most cherished memories.

A Surprise Guest from New York

One of the biggest surprises of the day was the arrival of my Uncle Nic.

He had told me he couldn’t make it to the wedding, so seeing him walk through the door was an incredible and unexpected gift.

His presence added even more joy to an already special day, and it’s a moment I’ll never forget.

The Importance of a Good Photographer

Looking back, there’s one piece of advice I’d give to any couple planning their wedding: if you’re considering cutting anything from your budget, don’t let it be the photographer.

The emotions of the day are so intense that it’s nearly impossible to remember everything. A skilled photographer is essential to capturing those fleeting moments that might otherwise be lost to memory.

Learning from Our Own Experience

After the wedding, my wife and I had many discussions about the day.

We realised just how many small moments had been missed, not just by us but by our guests as well. These were the little things that you don’t think about until the day is over.

This realisation has profoundly influenced my approach to wedding photography. I’m now even more committed to capturing those subtle, often overlooked moments, ensuring that couples can look back and fully relive their special day.
